Christmas Visual Diary.

So this is what I have been working on, we had to design and make a 3D visual diary. We had to collect an object everyday over our Christmas break and make a short diary entry to go with it, then choose 10 of them and communicate them in some way that reflected the story behind them.

Now I'm still in the foundation year and I'll hold my hands up me and Photoshop have never got on and to make matters worse my tutor was off the entire time...so, I had to teach myself - however considering that I'm pretty pleased with the work. The design of the booklet looked better scribbled down in my sketchbook...definitely needed something other than just plain paper on the inside.

I stayed up seriously ALLLL night making this...that's because the spray mount I bought from Hobbycraft was useless, I flipped the top off at 9pm Sunday night to discover that it didn't have the top to press and spray the stuff out the can with....but a massive thank you goes to the double sided sticky tape!

Streets Against The War!

Sokak Savaşa Karşı | Streets Against The War from sokak savasakarsi on Vimeo.

I LOVE this! The ending is insane! OK perhaps I've gone a bit crazy over this but it's GOOD!

Riot In a Jam Jar...

Some amazing sculptures by James Cauty, I like miniaturized things...not sure why but it's kind of the way the details of larger objects are made to be closer together and more intricate.

Project 5 - 3D Design.

Last of these projects was 3D design, our brief was to design a memory vessel for a real life person pf fictional character of our choice and me being a massive fan of The Wire I chose Jimmy McNulty.
Researching McNulty was an excuse to watch The Wire all over again and whilst I could of just wrote a biography in my sketchbook I decided to cut and stick a load of quotes down - quotes from The Wire are too good to leave out! Some of my favourites are...

"He learnt no lessons, he acknowledge no mistakes.."
-Landsman at Mcnulty's 'eulogy'

"You know what they call a man that pays too much attention to his clothes?"
-McNulty
"Yeah, a grown up!"
-Bunk

Below is mood board I set up, probably stuck too much down...but I had printed that much off (which costs a fortune at uni) that I wasn't wasting any of it!

The memory vessell could be anything you wanted it to be as long as it was relevant to that person and it is something that they would really want. The bottle below would be a Jameson bottle which concealed behind the label would be a hidden compartment which would store items he would associate certain memories to, the idea is sort of a metaphor of how you may feel when you get to the end of a bottle, reflective, regretful and all that.
We had to produce a Japanese sketchbook for this project (basically just a lonnng sketchbook)...I'm not sure why to be honest, I guess the tutor must of liked them.
Above are just a couple of the ideas I came up with but in the end I went with the bottle with a hidden compartment, I've changed it a bit since and now its made out of broken/distorted metal to reflect the characters tough yet damaged personality. My tutor said he would make a full sized mock up of my design butttt he hasn't got round to it, he said he'd do it over Christmas and include it with the rest of my project which has been handed in already, so if he does I'll put some photo's of it up on here.

Measured Drawing Class

Every week or so we are given a class on a different style of drawing, these are some pictures from our measured drawing class - the one where you have to hold out your thumb and pencil and do a whole lot of squinting! I learnt a lot and it gave me massive amount of confidence back that I'd lost not drawing like this for years.

Project 4 - Fashion

Fashion was the next project, after the briefing I walked out feeling I was going to hate the next 2 weeks - but to be fair it was alright. We had to choose an outfit from a spring collection on Style.com, I chose a Walter Van Beirendonck piece and I had to argue with my tutor to let me use it as she saw it was boring but it was the only one I really like and I'm not working with something I hate!

So we had to design a head or body piece to go with our chosen outfits, we was given a lift of artists/designers/architects to research and fortunately for me Herzog and De Meuron was on there and being interested in sport and inparticular football it was nice to be able to research a company that have designed football and sport stadia including the Olympic Beijing National Stadium (below).
Below is my head, painted in black - kind of locks like that guy out of The Watchmen.
So my final piece looked like that, I sprayed in blue but it makes it looks like I made it out of blue tak. I'm not happy with it but it proved harder to make than I had anticipated and in the end I just had to hand it in.
We also to create some of own outfits and take pictures, being the only guy in my group having to play dress-up with 5 girls wasn't exactly my idea of fun especially when all the stuff they gave us to use looked liked Lady Gaga's hand me downs...nevertheless I did my best to do somethings I liked.
