Project 3 - Graphics.

Graphics was the project I had expected to find the easiest or at least most straight forward. The brief which we were given  required us to make 10 vintage compositions, one for each letter K-T. We didn't need to use photoshop or anything, simple cutting and sticking, easy!

This project however, I struggled with. I got the complete wrong end of the stick, I had assumed our compositions had to have some running theme throughout (I chose Manchester United) and with that I had shot myself in the foot. Finding images associated with lesser known players from 30+ years ago that didn't include a massive 'getty images' watermark was a challenge!

In the end though researching the players was something I enjoyed, I got chance to sit down with my Grandad and go through the photos - he told me a lot of interesting stories and I feel I really learn't a lot about a club I thought I already knew a lot about!
Above is the legendary Tommy Taylor, killed in the Munich air disaster in 1958 he was only 26 but had already scored 112 goals for United in not many more appearances. He also had 19 caps for England with 16 goals to his name.

During my research on other artists I came accross Eduardo Recife (http://www.eduardorecife.com/) - I really liked his work. He is a illustrator, typographer, graphic designer and artist from Brazil, if you go over to
http://www.misprintedtype.com/ you can download some of his fonts for free!
My first few compositions were awful, too bad to put anywhere near the internet. Fortunately, my tutor was brutally honest & I stepped my game up!

Below is what I ended up with, I spent hours printing & re-printing images off - I can't say that I'm totally happy with them but it was only a 2 week project and I definately felt I picked up a lot that I can build with next time!

Project 2 - Visual Arts.

Our second project was Visual Arts, we had to bring in 5 objects - I chose toy cars (last minute panic at Tesco). We started off by drawing them, then drawing them with our opposite drawing hand, then drawing without taking our pencil of the page, then taping another pencil to the one we were using and my already bad drawings ended up looking like they had been assaulted by a nursery school!

Anyway, the next day we were allowed to do our own thing and experiment with different materials.
We also went into the workshop and created some plaster casts of our objects. I was pleased with the cars, they kinda look like they're half underwater like they've been dumped.

Using then out drawings and plaster casts we created these sculptures...wire is definitely the most frustrating material to use, way too fiddly!

Bringing Colour To Life.

This a collaboration between creative design studio Dentsu and photographer Linden Gledhill to sculpt paint using sound to create some truly amazing shots!

The Last Few Weeks.

Hello.

My name is Adam, I'm 24 and I've just gone back to university studying Art & Design - The thing is I haven't done anything artistic for about 5 years!

I did Art at GCSE but got a D, I did Product Design for a few weeks when I was 19 at university before I dropped out! Since then I've worked from one uninteresting job to the next before realising I was nowhere near where I had wanted to be. So, I quit, went travelling around Australia and then came back and applied for uni again.

My plan was to document my re-education with this blog but since Septmeber we've had so much work the time never seemed to make itself avaliable to write this. But, now we've broken up for Christmas so I'll fill you all in now what we've been doing for the last few weeks...

Week 1 - Lie Of The Land
(Enviromental Art Sculpture)

We went to Delemere Forest, near Knutsford to explore, be inspired and find a site to create out sculpture. We then went back and working in groups, researched and came up with an idea.

We got our idea from Mikael Hansens 1995 piece 'organic highway', we had a this beautiful spot - a jetty going out into this huge lake and below is our final piece...

It was back breaking work, but was worth it. Finished the project with a B+ which considering it's my first Art project for years pretty pleased with it.
I'll post the rest of the projects up over the next few days.
Peace.
